#4 Eyck, Jan van (1395-1441)

He was very active in the actual Belgium and the Netherlands, he is traditionally known as "the father of oil painting", i'm sure you'll appreciate his artistic skills.

The mirror is a reference to the use of mirrors he used to make this painting, this is what David Hockney explains in his book 'Secret Knowledge'

  1. This image is very sad to me. I can see why Jan van is considered the father of oil painting. The shadows and lighting create amazing texture. I know what it would feel like to touch any piece of this in person. But the woman looks like she has horns, the man says 'I'm here but only because I have to and nothing more.' And the weird dog/cat at the bottom says 'I'm not even really here.'
